Bio

Beth Niemand, AKBD

I combined a love of design with my dream of owning a business and launched Niemand Interiors in 2004.  Prior to beginning my design career I worked at the travel web site Orbitz.com and have 15 years of business experience in direct marketing, web product development and project management. Strengths from my business career – attention to detail, project management skills and attentive customer service – balance perfectly with my passion for interior design that is creative, beautiful and functional.

Throughout my design career I've collaborated closely with general contractors, carpenters, plumbers, electricians and tile installers. The details I put into my designs drawings are a result of what I learned (and continue to learn!) from the trades, and I know a project can only improve by seeking their advice and knowledge.

I obtained my degree in interior design from Harrington College of Design in Chicago. I'm a member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, and expanded my knowledge of my chosen specialty by completing several NKBA courses and passing an exam to obtain my AKBD (Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer) certification. (Click here to read about the benefits of hiring an NKBA certified designer.) I also hold a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.

When I'm not working I'm usually busy researching my next vacation. I've traveled to many countries around the world and am inspired by ancient architecture, food, wine, hotel design and the quest for the perfect hotel bathroom.

"Beth was integral to the spatial design of the gut rehab of our townhouse, functioning as the architect in transforming the bedroom and bathroom space upstairs into a wonderful modern living area.  We loved her creative ideas in the kitchen in terms of layout and cabinetry as well as for tile design throughout the house.  We could not be more pleased with the result."

Bruce Murphy, Client, Multiple Remodeling Projects

"Beth and I worked together on four separate projects for my homes in Chicago and southwestern Michigan.  Everyone who sees my Lincoln Park bathroom comments on the beautiful design and interesting tile pattern.  I appreciate her ability to select colors -- sometimes combinations I would never have thought of, but the end result is always great.  I love the custom storage cabinets she designed for my bedroom; excellent quality and I doubled my closet space.  I don't have to worry about shopping when I work with Beth, she knows my taste and does the legwork to find everything I need.  I would refer her without hesitation to my friends and trust her to do a great job."

Bogdan Zolty, Carpenter and Tile Installer

"I have worked with Beth many times over the last few years. When she is involved with a project it always makes my job easier. Her design drawings are very detailed and they help me efficiently plan my work from start to finish. Beth is easy to work with and always willing to discuss ideas or help solve problems that arise. The kitchens and baths she designs are beautiful and I have seen many clients very happy with her work. I highly recommend Beth, and I very much appreciate how she thinks about her designs not only to please the client, but also thinks about the perspective of the carpenter and tile installer."

Tara and Mike Call, Clients, Master and Guest Bath Remodel

"We worked with Beth on the interior design of our master and guest bathrooms. She was great to work with for a number of reasons, including the following:

-  As they are small spaces, she proved to be very helpful and creative in terms of maximizing space
    and function with her design.
-  Her drawings were very helpful in picturing the space as we were making decisions throughout the process.
-  She really listened to our needs and accommodated them into her designs.
-  She was extremely responsive throughout the process.
-  She was very helpful in assisting us in the purchasing process, which we initially found to be overwhelming.

Overall, Beth was wonderful to work with and we will definitely enlist her services on future projects if needed."
